Ascent Trip Report

We parked the car at the Hale Brook Trailhead and started the hike up Zealand Road. Weather was overcast and misty but not yet raining. Zealand trail was pretty smooth going overall but as we approached the hut it started to rain steadily and the Zealand River was pretty high and overflowing onto the trail. We got to the hut around 8:30am. The Lend-A-Hand trail was a river for the first mile or so and very slippery and the rain was continuing. The second half of the Lend-A-Hand trail was not as bad but we did encounter random patches of snow starting around the 3,000 foot elevation mark. Nothing special was needed but it was slippery and tricky at parts. We arrived at the summit of Mount Hale around 10:20am and at that point the rain had stopped. We took a few pictures and then continued down the Hale Brook trail. We again encountered random patches of snow until we got below 3,000 feet. At this point the sun finally came out for the last mile or so of the trip.
