Ascent Trip Report

From NM 518 I took Forest Road 76 north for 12.3 mi. The first 9 1/2 miles are well-maintained for passenger cars; it gets rougher after that. There's a fork at 11.8 mi. Take the left fork. I parked at the side of the road at roughly 11,200 feet. My GPS put the distance at only 0.61 mi. There's an abandoned forest road that crisscrosses a direct path to the peak. I followed it at times, but frequently lost it in overgrown brush and deep snow. A more direct route is to follow a fence line up the last half of the climb. The deep snow slowed me down. After the snow melts this should take less than an hour and a half round trip.

The top of the mountain is a meadow with great views in all directions. There's a cairn with a wood pole that looks like the high point, a bit past where my My GPS coordinates indicated the high point should be.
