Ascent Trip ReportSomebody had the stupid idea of a 330am departure from Lakewood, while another was devious enough to accept. Arrived at the trailhead about 515 am as dawn was breaking. One other party had camped overnight, we were the first there that morning. We must have left about 545am, and hustled to get a clear view of the sky while below treeline. First photo suggests trailhead departure about 615am, which I can't reconcile. GPS track was lost. We did get a clear view against a brightening horizon but saw just a few of the Aurigid meteors.
Scarcity of meteors was made up for by the large numbers of very friendly mountain goats. Several photos with goat props were taken. The pace was comfortable. We were the first to start, but were passed by 2-3 parties near the summit. Summit made by about 915 with Vaune in the lead. The summit became quite a community gathering place with stories, questions and maps exchanged freely.
Departure maybe 10am? with a surprise of seeing the route up solid with Labor Day climbers. Very glad we got the early start. On the way down, met a ~6 year old girl on the side of the trail left there by her dad. I clumsily tried to cheer her up, but reallized she was scared and cold. We warmed her with jackets and handwarmers until her Dad showed up a few minutes later. How could he leave his daughter???????????
Return was at a leisurely pace, getting to the cars perhaps at 1pm. The parkinglot and the side of the road was filled with cars all the way to Hiway 9.
