Ascent Trip Report

Hiked up Calkin's Brook to Donaldson, then Emmons, then over to Seward and down Seward herd path to Ward Brook Truck trail. Beautiful views of Long Lake and the Eastern High Peaks. The Calkins Brook path was pretty easy, compared to the very rugged, steep, rocky and muddy Seward trail from the truck trail. On the descent, I took two spills right flat on my face. Hit my left shin on rocks, which still bear the bruises to talk about today. By time we got to the trailhead it was dark out.
The hike up Donaldson was pretty steep and challenging. Like Redfield, I was pretty whooped, perhaps due to low blood-sugar. The lesson taken from these hikes is that now I keep a few energy bars in my pants pocket, noshing on them every so often as I hike. The Camelbak also helps. This has helped me out!
