Ascent Trip ReportNorm Arlt nutty Perseids meteor shower moonless night hike.
A beautiful soft evening greated 12 of us at Guanella pass. 630pm departure from 4th and Union resulted in leaving the trailhead 830pm. Started with a few fits of disintegrating backpacks and a few unexpected dips in Scott Gomer Creek. The group was good natured and helpful as we snailed our way up to the saddle on a well-maintained trail. Norm paused periodically to point out some beautiful astronomical delights. From the saddle, trip became a boulder hop, requiring a bright headlamp to choose your route. Group summited by 130am, with expectation having been midnight. With a 200am turn around time, this left only 30 minutes to enjoy the summit. And enjoy we did, with a perfectly clear sky, unspoiled by city lights. The view was fabulous, and the sleeping bag comfy. Return trip took about 4 hours, with downhill headlight navigation proving to be more difficult. Drove back to Lakewood, where Norm, Vaune, Jeff, Marsha and I enjoyed a hearty Denny's breakfast. All told, a very great trip. Tnx Norm.
