Ascent Trip ReportSolo hike, up to Mt. Russell, went straight up the ridge on easy class 3, the register dated back to 1980. Took the gnarly Ridge to Backus. Got too low in a few spots and lost some time.Descended the Southwest ridge down and this was exciting and fast, some class 2/3, x-country throught the desert back to the car. Lots of beautiful wild flowers. RT 5 hours 55 minutes.
I was early so I headed over to Five Fingers. The HPS guide stated 2-3 hours, so I figured I'd make it in 1 and a half or so. I figured wrong it took my 2 hrs 15 mins.. Had some trouble with routing finding and ended up climbing up the wrong chute to the summit, topped out 15 yds east of the summit. I was thinking this is way too difficult for an HPS peak. Once on the summit I located the correct chute with the steps cut out and this was much easier going down. Did not see the register. Maybe it was at the bottom of the HPS chute. Great day, did not see an other hiker.
