Ascent Trip ReportAfter an easy morning ascent of the Kefalonia island highpoint Óros Aínos, we headed north for this, the island's second most prominent summit, which also turned out to be a pleasant easy hike.
There is parking at N38.34342 E20.56617, 646m, where a large herd of goats formed a welcoming committee. From here, across a barrier, a dirt road zigzags up towards the summit, passing within about 150m of the summit. A good place to turn of is at about N38.33358 E20.57336. There are three summits, linked by goat / boot trails. The NW summit (N38.33465 E20.57349, 887m) has a cylindrical trig pillar beside a slightly higher rock outcrop. The NE summit (N38.33478 E20.57523, 906m, closest to Jonathan de Ferranti's summit co-ordinates) has a tall cairn: these two summits appear similar in height. The SE summit (N38.33368 E20.57596, 890m) has a tumbledown shelter cairn and appears the lowest of the three. From here we descended to the dirt road which we followed back to the car for a not-very-hard-earned picnic.
We then headed back S to investigate Merovougli, the island's third most prominent summit, which according to Jonathan de Ferranti's data might be close to P600m status.
