Ascent Trip ReportI led the hike to Big Slide via The Brothers on 4/30/2011.
The hike was right after heavily rain for a week. The ferry between Charlotte(VT) and Essex(NY)wasn't operated due to High Water at Lake Champ.
After we decided to take another ferry between Chimney Point & Crown Point, we noticed that Route 9N is closed at NY side. We had to go much further South for detour. When we started to aim North, we were stuck again with another closed road.
We delayed hiking start time about an hour due to the problems as above listed. One hiker brought 14 yrs old dog on this hike and this dog had a lot of difficulty to hike in ledges. Finally, hiker gave up to hike in at certain point before reaching to the 3rd summit of Big Slide and returned to the parking lot.
After passing the 3rd summit of The Bros, I started to wear Microspikes since trail was so slushy. The last 0.29 miles spur trail to reach to Big Slide is very steep and slushy. So Microspikes helped me to avoid sliding my boots downward.
It was great weather day for hike and I could see beautiful views from ledges at The Brothers and Big Slide.
