Ascent Trip Reportw Monica and the randomites (Ashley, Carmen, Garrett, Karine, and Marta). The "Waterville Seven" had a great day to say goodbye to winter in the 2010-2011 SledFest Season finale. While the skies were gray the air was warm (hiked in shorts and a short-sleeve t-shirt) and the snow was plentiful. This is a great hike - you can start late, take your time on the way up, and still finish early. The hiking trail had solid snow that we could easily bareboot (which meant our snow-shoes never came off the pack) and there were very few bald spots on the ski trails. The snow was a bit faster than we expected - figured it would be slushy but there were only some soft spots here and there. Could go top-to-bottom without having to get off of your sled - managed to top out at 34 MPH. Garrett and Marta are sledding converts now. Even though there were three dogs along with us you didn't know it - they were great.
