Ascent Trip ReportAfter a very nice early-morning ascent of the Lefkada island HP Lefkas / Stavrota we crossed the short bridge back to the mainland and found our way to the Korifi trailhead. As Petter Bjorstad mentions in his report, find your way to the SW corner of a football ground (N38.84736 E20.94492), turn R and follow the paved road (look out for a road that turns L across the mountainside). We parked outside the monastery at N38.78347 E20.98416, 1051m.
From the trailhead a wide track zigzags uphill (ignore the L (downhill) fork), to a flat area (water trough) in scrubby woodland (N38.77886 E20.98799). From here, make a leftward uphill traverse. We crossed the ridge at N38.77515 E20.98983, then contoured to cross a minor saddle (N38.76749 E20.99146, 1420m). The route (path) now descends a little, crossing rough scrubby pasture (we saw cattle and heard dogs but luckily didn't meet any). The route then rises a little to cross another saddle (N38.76453 E20.99096, 1403m). From here we skirted L of the next top but it is best to go straight over (cairn, N38.76312 E20.99094, 1474m). From here a broad ridge undulates over a few minor summits to finally reach Korifi (N38.75810 E20.99441, 1583m), marked by a toppled trig pillar which makes a nice seat and a great viewpoint. From here the nearby Boumoti, 1573m P808, is only a few metres lower than Korifi and looks very fine, as do several nearby island summits including the one we were on this morning.
We made our way back down in warm sunshine, arriving back with plenty of time for a leisurely drive (but not for another summit) south across the impressive Rion-Antiri bridge to Patra for the 8pm ferry to Kefalonia, planning to ascend Óros Aínos and the island's two other prominent summits the next day.
