Ascent Trip ReportNeal Robbins, Peter, and I, plus 7 former WTC students, went to Onion Valley. We did snow skills training on Sat, then 9 of us (Max was sick) attempted Gould, with Neal, Peter, Mike Manous, and me summiting. We started out on snow that crunched and gave a bit, so switched to snowshoes early to avoid postholing. There is a constant climb of 4000' in about 3 miles. We switched to crampons on the steep slopes, but then the snow got soft so we took them off. The last 250' was on rock, with a class 3 summit block. We descended with a few glissades, the longest of which was 780'.
