Ascent Trip ReportKen and I hiked Mt Abraham and Mt Ellen on 3/27/2011. We started from Battell Trail since we know we cannot drive Lincoln Gap Road up to the trailhead.(road is closed at winter time). Up to Mt Abraham was relatively easy since there were so many footprints.
But after passing Mt Abe summit, footprints were getting less. Many of blue trail blazes under the snow. Especially for after Nancy Hanks Peak, it's extremely difficult to find the trail. We lost trail many times and spent so much time to seek it right and left. This is because backcountry skiers on Sugarbush messed up trails completely. There were so many ski tracks on snow. After reaching Mt Ellen, we proceeded toward North, but, before we reached to Jerusalem Trail, we decided to hike down (bushwhacking) toward East. After 30-40min hike down, we finally reached to Jerusalem Trail and the rest of hike-out was pretty easy to follow foot printed trail.
