Ascent Trip Report

Ken, Lew, Nick and I hiked from York Pond Trail TH at York Pond Rd on 3/5/2011 to hike Mt Cabot, The Bulge and The Horns.

Ken and I hiked at Mt Cabot several weeks ago and we had to break trail all the way from the York Pond Trail TH to Cabot summit and we spent 5 hours or so to go up and we were tired and gave up to go further to peakbag Bulge and Horn.

So 3/5/2011 was the revenge day to cover all 3 peaks and we knew that we'll have to break trail from Mt Cabot Summit to Bulge and Horns. We were correct and we had to break trails over there. Especially around the col between Cabot and The Bulge, we didn't know where the trail is because trail blazes were hidden by heavy snow. So we used map & GPS and did some bushwhack, too. Around the col between Cabot and the Bulge, there were so many spruce traps where Nick was trapped more than 20 times while each of us was trapped 2-3 times.

Anyhow, my original hiking plan was to do loop hike, but we didn't want to break trails anymore after the peakbagging 3 peaks. So after coming down on Spur trail to the Horns, we decided to go backward to trace back our footprint on the trail such that there was no more trail breaking. We went back to Bluge from Horn, then, Cabot from Bulge. Then, came back to the York Pond Trail TH.
It took about 9 hours 40min including lunch and taking a break time.
