Ascent Trip ReportJust after completing the Vashon Island HP contenders, we visited Maury Island. The TR by Ken Jones is good. Here are some additional notes, plus one correction to his original TR:
-> The King County Parks gate (metal gate) is near a 450' contour, not a 350' contour as Ken Jones originally implied.
-> The park, where the HP is located, is Maury Island Marine Park... which contains the longest Puget Sound coastline of any King County park. A great trail map is found in the online brochure: http://your.kingcounty.gov/ftp/gis/Web/VMC/recreation/BCT_MauryIsland_brochure.pdf
-> As Ken Jones mentioned, there are two road/trail junctions. Taking a left at the first junction would follow a trail down towards the beach. Taking a right at the first junction leads towards the HP. It does not matter which turn to take at the second junction, as it is essentially a loop trail that which reaches its apex near the HP area.
-> The grassy road/trail in the park gets a lot of equestrian use.
-> The possible HP contenders require some minor exploring in salal and blackberry bushes.
