Ascent Trip ReportHiked from trail head parking lot on Platte Cove Road following Blue Blazes to Overlook Summit. There was still about a foot of snow on the ground but everything was thawing in the sun. We ended up post-holing the whole way to the summit because the thaw had weakened the snow pack. It was very slow going. Visited the fire tower and the ruins but decided not to turn back and camp at Devil's Kitchen lean-to due to the snow conditions and the amount of daylight left. We hiked down the south side of Overlook to the Meads Mountain Road trail head parking. We took a taxi to the southern dead end of Platte Cove Road and hiked the 2 miles back to our car. We didnt realize this road gains ~1000 feet in elevation. Our legs were burning by the time we were finished.
