Ascent Trip Report

Stark County has three high point candidates, all relatively close together, so it's a fairly quick excursion despite multiple destinations. I began with #3. From U.S. 30 take 183 North to 153 West and look for the Pleasant View Golf Club. Park at the club house and walk up 0.1 mi. to the high point near the 16th tee.

For #2 get back on 153 west and turn left (soon) on Rummel Rd. (dirt). Take Rummel to Georgetown Rd., Right on Georgetown (blacktop) to left on Walker (dirt). You're headed toward the electric transmission towers clearly visible some distance away. Park at a little access track to a radio tower, and walk up hill toward the towers. At the top you'll be able to see the third spot which is behind a nearby white house to the south.

Only dogs were home when I knocked on the door of that house. I wandered the back yard and the field behind. There's a high spot right behind the house but another in the filed behind it.

My GPS gave readings nearly 20 feet higher for the area near the transmission towers compared to the area behind the house, but I'm not convinced that those readings are accurate. My GPS had been fluctuating a bit all afternoon. The two spots are each visible from the other, and it was not visually obvious to me which was higher.

Combined round trip walking distances for the three spots was about 3/4 mi. and combined elevation gain 101 ft.
