Ascent Trip ReportWe approached from the west, I74, exit 14, on the way to bag some "Great Lakes CoHP". We drove north on North Bend Road a short distance (.36 miles) to the stop-light and a right turn, where North Bend Road continues east 1.5 miles to the driveway on the right to the gated fenced-in "Mount Airy Pumping Station" with a tall communication tower .... a huge Castle-Like Facility, right on the hill, can't be missed from any direction, the N/S Colerain Avenue (hwy 27) is 100 yards to the east of the driveway. We parked in the church parking-lot just before the driveway. PB puts the spot at 50 feet east of the gate at the fence-line, which I agree is the highground of the existing manicured grass lawn. No question however that this ground is not natural, the excavation necessary for such a facility together with the surrounding infrastructure is enormous. My guess is that natural ground would have been higher in elevation than the existing.
