Ascent Trip ReportFrom the Bamberg County we traveled west on #78 to Williston where we continued on #78 for 4.1 miles to a right turn on White Pond Road (S-02-273). We drove northeast 1.2 miles to a right on Moseley Road (Sand road), at .6 miles arrived at a stop sign where the road jogs left/right/changes to pavement and continues for .16 miles to a left on the paved Wild Rose Road (S-6-112). Traveled .56 miles to stop at Blacks Road.
Area 2 ..... drive .2 miles north on Wild Rose Road and park the car. The obvious high ground is 100 yards to the left in the planted open field.
Area 1 ..... from Moseley Road drive north on Wild Rose .56 miles to a stop at Blacks Road. To the right as you arrive at this corner is an obvious/fenced-in/large-domed summit. This is the Highpoint area.
The owner's house is a few hundred yards before Blacks Road on the right, large sign "Wild Rose Farms", mailbox "Applegate #167". As we drove up, a yapping dog and a lady walked towards us from the rear of the house.
The very hospitable lady purchased this place a few years ago and wasn't aware that it was the County highpoint. I am the first to ask for such a request, and had no problem with me walking out to the high ground less than 100 yards.
"I am training this dog and don't know how he'll react with you being on the property, so let me go get the leash."
I walked back to the large summit and picked a spot about 60 feet southwest of the large tree, in front of an abandoned shed, at 33.43169, 81.44644. PB puts the spot 30 feet north on the tree.
"SOME DECISIONS YOU ONLY GET TO MAKE THEM ONCE ..... SO THEY BETTER BE RIGHT."
