Ascent Trip Report

Drove about .9 mile up Pole Creek Ridge 4WD road to a nice meadow before the road got really rough. Walked up the rest of the road which became a nice trail up the ridge to meet the Elkhorn Crest Trail. The Elkhorn Crest Trail is an awesome trail that was picked and blasted out of the rocky south slope of the long ridgeline. Although the trail stays on the south side, several parts of the trail were still covered by small cornices on the east side of sub-ridges. Most could be avoided by a small up- or down-climb, but the one just northeast of subpeak 8105 required a bit of a scramble uphill. Going up the southwest ridge to the summit required some route-choosing around tree clusters and areas of loose talus. Overall a nice scramble. The Wallowa, Strawberry and Aldrich Ranges are in sight on a clear day.
