Ascent Trip ReportI hiked Quail Mtn from the turn out for the Quail Springs Picnic Area on the main road that goes through Joshua Tree NP.
From the picnic area I hiked west across the desert for a couple miles following a wash and an old road until I rounded the low hills north of point 4695 and then I hiked southeast up Johnny Lang Canyon on a climbers' trail. I stayed in or near the wash until it turned south and then kind of southwest. Then I left the wash and climbed the steep slope up to a saddle just south of point 5405. Once at the saddle, I followdd the ridge to the summit area. I bypassed the first hill on the west side and there was a little down slope before getting on the final slope up to the summit ridge. The highpoint is on the south end of the ridge and benchmark is on the north end. Great views from both ends.
