Ascent Trip ReportThis is another of those Counties that needs to eliminate candidate highpoints that are no longer natural and/or impossible to identify because of development. PB's Areas 3,4 and 5 are located in dense subdivisions where in my opinion there is no natural ground left between the homes/streets, especially since the terrain is all fine sand.
We first went to the last Area in Chip Clark's TR of 2004 (not in PB). From St Augustine we drove north on hwy 1 15.2 miles to a right turn on Ray Road, then .4 miles to the dead-end at the gated Quail Ridge Farms, huge High School on Ray Road. We walked through the manway on the left side of the gate and roamed around the high priced community looking for highground of this area. I ended up chosing a spot on the left side of a long driveway #10600, in what looks natural ground, my GPS read 30.08383, 81.44901.
PB's Area 5 ..... We returned back to Hwy 1 and continued north 1 mile to a right turn on CR210 (Valley Ridge Blvd) followed by a right on Old Dixie Road and in .36 miles a left turn on Walden Chase. The highground is at this corner, the community is pretty dense.
Areas 3 and 4 ...... can be accessed from CR210 via Austin Park or Walden Chase Roads. Both communities are densely built and in my opinion no natural ground to be found.
Area 1 and 2 ..... The only areas that a haven't been developed and are still wild, not for long I'm sure. From hwy 1 we drove east on CR210 for 1.25 miles, at a large Nocatee sign, this is the TH. Found a place to park our van. I walked north 50 yards in the wild open woods and picked my highground for Area 1 at 30.10125, 81.44769 (close to PB). For Area 2 I bushwacked northwest (going through a dried-up pond) about 200 yards and picked my highground at 30.10208, 81.45010.
