Ascent Trip ReportI followed Bob Schwab's directions to the two high points. No one was home at the brown house nearest to the first hp, but I asked at the house just below, where friendly people said it was no problem walking up. Found the benchmark. A pleasant February afternoon (66) after lots of cold weather.
Second point--there are three driveways right in a row right after the turn off rt. 164. Mr Dunlap's is the second of the three. I found him cutting wood in the back yard. He gave me a friendly greeting and expressed curiosity whether the highest point in the county was on his property or across the road. I got a GPS reading on Mr. Dunlap's property of 1388, e.g. exactly equal to the elevation listed on the benchmark on the area on the other side of rt. 164, but I got GPS readings at the benchmark about 12-14 feet lower than the benchmark's listed elevation of 1388. So, I don't know whether that means Mr. Dunlap's yard is a bit higher or just that my GPS wasn't very accurate today.
