Ascent Trip ReportI parked on nearby Reuben Road and ran 10 miles in Derry, finishing by checking out Warner Hill fire tower.
The tower is accessed by a short, straight, steep road with deteriorating asphalt. There is a vehicle gate about two-thirds of the way up, which was closed. I walked around it and proceeded to the hilltop.
The view from the tower is indeed limited by the surrounding trees, although on this winter day the views were decent in all directions except to the north. I could imagine that the views would be much more obstructed when the leaves are on the trees, so I would recommend a late fall, winter, or early spring visit.
After descending the tower, I noticed a trail on the north side of the cleared hilltop area, and there was even what looked like a blue blaze on a tree. I followed this trail, but after about 100 meters it widened considerably and appeared to lead into an open area, and I didn't see any additional blazes. Plus I think I was on private property at that point, although the land wasn't posted, to my knowledge. I turned back anyway and returned to my car.
