Ascent Trip Report

On this day, I had hoped to take the boat to Wizard Island and climb to the summit there. Because of the climb from the crater rim to the boat dock -- the total climb to the summit of Wizard Island is negative! Unfortunately, after a bunch of us waited in the close-to-freezing cold for an hour, the boat people decided the wind on the lake was too strong for the boat to operate on this day. (I think they were right.) I could have taken the boat trip on the previous day -- just wasn't smart enough to do it, and wanted to do an easy day today because I thought I would do something bigger tomorrow. Anyway, after having breakfast at the Crater Lake Lodge with two nice couples from Oregon who had also been waiting in line, I went to do Crater Peak so there was something to show for the day. The hike has a bit of a descent at the start, then a bit of a rise at the end. The summit was pleasant, but unspectacular. It did, at least, offer a few bars on my cell phone, and I called my daughter to say hello.
