Ascent Trip ReportThis TR will update/complement Fred Lobdell's TR of 1999. The conditions on the ground are still the same after 11 years, I include here only changes/additional details, this report doesn't stand alone, one needs to read Fred.
AREA 1 (PB's main area) just north of hwy 12 ...... .4 miles, 20 minutes RT. I parked at Fred's parking spot on hwy 12, just before the guard rails, .5 miles north of 12/1641 intersection. There is a large blue blaze on a tree across the road to the left. This is the TH. I walked generally northwest in open pine woods about 300 yards to the obvious highground at a berm. The easy walk is between beautiful rows of pines, look for the highground and change rows as required. I picked my spot beside/west-of the berm at 30.49953, 84.89182. I left an orange flag tape.
AREA 2 ....... dirt road and bushwack in open woods, .9 miles RT. As I understand Fred's report, this area is the furthest east area closest to the gas pipe line swath, the rough road eastbound along the swath from 1641 is roped off at a large sign "Property of Teco", one needs to walk from here. I walked east 600 yards to a height-of-land at 3 gas pipe line survey markers and a hunters shooting cabin to the right. I bushwacked south in open pine woods and picked my highground at about 160 yards, just before the second berm. I put an orange flag tape on a tree at 30.50355, 84.89326.
AREA 3 is the area nearest 1641, south of the gas pipe line swath. From 1641 I walked east 250 yards then bushwacked south about 200 yards, crossing over 3 berms, couldn't really find the 290 foot contour. I agree with Fred and personally PB should remove this area as a candidate.
AREA 4 We parked on 270, .2 miles north of intersection 1641/270, just past a driveway on the right at a fire hydrant. I walked west 50 yards into the woods at obvious highground, I tied an orange flag tape to a tree at 30.54195, 84.90720.
