Ascent Trip ReportThere are 4 candidate highpoint Areas for this County at the northwest corner of the County, just south of Calhoun County Line.
We approached from the east. We left Marianna driving south on 73 to Chipola Park. At the road crossing, Jessie Yon Road to the left and Two Pen Road (unsigned) on the right, we turned right and traveled west 3.8 miles to a stop sign at a T-Junction.
On the way we passed 6 pick-up trucks, all hunters out for deer. They park on the road side and stand in the truck-bed looking for deer.
AREA 1 (PB's main furthest east area) .... beside the County Line.
We turned left at the T-Junction and drove 1.5 miles to a right turn on Ike Steele Road (unsigned except for a small white sign "#51"). This road is the County Line and is gated (open today).
We parked the car at 100 yards, pine forest amid dense undergrowth on both sides of Ike Steele Road.
I walked/fought-my-way magnetic south 60 yards to my chosen spot 30.19995,85.27614 (as per PB). This is another one of those tables, good luck.
AREA 2,3 AND 4 (furthest west areas) .... not done.
From Area 1 we returned to the T-junction noted above and continued north then west on the way to these Areas, after about 3 miles we had to turn back at a flooded-over section, much too risky for a passenger car. Last night we had a long torrential downpour and not the time to be driving these wet/muddy roads with a passenger car.
I decided to leave these 3 areas for some other Highpointer to explore/report-on, knowing that all I would find is another flat table. Dry weather should be chosen for these adventures.
"WHEN YOU COME TO A FORK ON THE TRAIL ....... TAKE IT." ....... Berraism.
