Ascent Trip ReportFred Lobdell's excellent TR of 1999 still applies, and should be read together-with the update/details that I provide here.
AREA 1 (PB's main area) ...... drive up.
From Laurel Hill, junction 85/85A, drive west/northwest on 85A for .7 miles to a somewhat hidden dirt road on the right (where 85A curves left), this road leads to an open area with private homes. Drive the dirt road 100 yards then left 75 yards and park the car, my coordinates were 30.97408, 86.46563, this is my Highpoint. The area is very flat.
AREA 2 (just south of the Alabama state line) ..... .6 miles, 20 minute RT.
From Area 1 go back to 85 in Laurel Hill and travel north .25 miles to a left turn on Thomas Road, go north 1.7 miles on the dirt road to the State Line where the pavement starts, continue into Alabama another .5 miles to a T-Junction with Old Goolsby Place Road. Turn right and travel east 1 mile to a gated (it was open) dirt road on the right. Take another right and go south back to the State line at .5 miles. Park the car, this is the TH, to the east along the State Line is a large open field on both sides of the Line.
On the way here I stopped in at the house (on the right) for permission. He had no problem with me going to the State Line (which he pointed out for me) but did say that a Hunting Club owns property to the east and wasn't sure of their position.
I walked eastbound on a dirt track (Florida side) for .25 miles ..... at 2 big trees one with sign "Old Country Hunting Club" on Florida side, to the left on Alabama side the start of a wooded area. I turned right and went south about 100 yards to the summit area, I picked my spot at 30.99320, 86.43464.
