Ascent Trip Report

Fred Lobdell's excellent TR of 1999 still applies today except for some minor on the ground changes. For the purpose of clarity I have updated Fred's report for the 3 candidate areas all as per following, Fred's report should be read before this update.

WESTERN AREA ..... easy woods track, 1 mile, 40 minutes RT.
From the intersection of 4/87, travel north on 87 for 4.7 miles to the paved Jody Lane on the right. Turn right and travel east to the end of the pavement at .25 miles. Park here, this is the TH ......
Straight ahead is a house amid tall pines (no one was home, bassett hound tied out front), to the left is a gated woods track that leads to the summit.
Walk through the gate and follow the well used track at a 30 degree compass to a fork at .2 miles, stay left and continue generally north ..... to the right is a tall pine forest, to the left young pine. At about .4 miles the track comes to a T-Junction with a narrow track at the end of the tall pine forest. This is the summit area, to the north and west is very dense/thorny brush. I chose a spot at 30.97117, 87.04127.

EASTERN (FURTHEST SOUTH) AREA, PB's main area ...... drive up beside a road.
From the Western Area TH we came back to 87 and traveled north 1.5 miles to a right turn on Camp Henderson Road, zero your odo here and travel east.
2.6 mile - stay left at fork.
5 mile - come to a stop at a 4-way-crossing, proceed straight on the paved Sellerville Road.
9.9 mile - come to a T-Junction with Three Notch Trail (Church on corner), turn left.
10.2 mile - arrive 191.
Turn right followed by an immediate left on Overstreet Road and drive east on this dirt road for 2.4 miles to a 3-way-intersection (called Belandville). Make a sharp left and drive generally north .75 miles and park the car. On the right is a covered picnic area and on the left (west) a large grass flat field. I walked/circled (100yards) the area touching the high ground.

EASTERN AREA (ON STATE LINE) ...... drive up into a field.
From the foregoing we drove north .44 miles to the AL/FL State Line, then west on the State Line (dirt track) for .15 miles to the very corner of the open field on the right (Alabama side), to the left (Florida side) is wooded. I chose my spot at 30.99734, 86.85233.

We were running low on gas so we drove south to Baker before moving-on to the Okaloosa CoHP.
