Ascent Trip Report

Parked at Trailhead on East St. across from Mt. Washington sign. Day 1 - broke trail to top of Round Mt. through 2 ft. fresh snow. Hard going. Vertical ascent up Round was difficult and requires crampons. So much snow I kept sliding back down the hill. Day 2 - With broken trail I got to top of Round without difficulty. I also now knew to change from snowshoe to crampon at base of cliff, then back to show shoe at top of cliff (to avoid post holing up to my waist !). Great cell reception at top of Round Mt. Good views. Descend into saddle between Round and Frisell. Ascent up Frisell is relatively easy and quick. Somewhat difficult in show but not too bad. Summit box is a few feet to right at summit. Descent in show is fast !. Up and Down Frissell in snowshoes but up and down Round in crampons. They look easy on the map in both distance and height but I can say with the snow they compare favorable to many a CO 14er. On Day 2 it was about 15 but I was soon sweating from the exertion.
