Ascent Trip ReportA loop snowshoe jog/hike around Bearpen's massif utilizing snowmobile trails to within a quarter mile of Bearpen's true summit followed by 120 yards of bushwack to Bearpen-Northwest with a detour breaking trail via half-mile of road in sometimes knee deep snow to Roundtop Mountain. Ski Run Road has since changed from Daniel Case's Report. The bottom of the hill has become Don Irwin Rd .51 miles from the top of hill were new road & parking exits straight down along ridgeline from large four way road junction below Roundtop Mtn. Heisinger Rd is .10 miles from Rt2 & Don Irwin Jct at hill's bottom. A short walk along Heisinger Rd leads to a pair of gated roads, the right is private, the left Percy Rd leads up south along Bearpen's east flank to a rigde trail jct. The area between these two THs is private in-holdings inside Bearpen State Forest. I met no snowmobilers on this Friday only their beaten paths, except for two DEC rangers resting their machines west of Bearpen summit who provided the knowledge (as well as naming Percy Rd) that Ski Run Road now exits to Greene Cty Rte 2 at top of hill, helping to lead me on my unplanned loop. I managed an extra .61 miles waffling in trail alongside Northwest Bearpen, true is closer to nine miles.
