Ascent Trip Report

Apparently I hiked it "illegally". Beth and I stayed at the lodges nearby. I talked to a few people, saw there was a road, drove to it, parked in the open, and walked to the top. Saw no signs or posted notices. Months later I got admonished by someone in the area after they read my trip report.

In any case, apparently the summit is now open for hikers. You have to sign in at the Terlingua Lodges nearby and the road is now drivable (when I was there, it had ruts deep enough to bury me!).

The range is/maybe/might become part of the Big Bend N.P. Land dealings in this part of Texas can get very convoluted and drawn out. Maybe your grandkids will hike it as part of Big bend.
