Ascent Trip Report

The trail to Brokeoff is highly engineered like that to Lassen -- a fairly gentle slope for its entire length. It passes through a lot of very pleasant forest before emerging near the top. Just as the trail reaches the summit, there is a bit of non-scary, but exhilarating exposure. The summit itself is fantastic! There are steep dropoffs all around except where the trail comes up, and the trail isn't visible unless you are right above the place where it is.
A note about finding the trail -- it is about half a mile south of the south entrance gate to the park on Route 89, and doesn't have big brown signs like features in the park. There is a very small sign on the west side of the highway where the trail starts. There is a parking area for 15 cars or so on the east side, along with a sign board that cannot be read from the highway. I missed the whole thing the first time I went by because I was looking for a brown sign.
