Ascent Trip ReportI was finally able to drive to the summit parking lot after repeated delays in opening the summit road due to construction. I thought of hiking from Newfound gap, however they were not allowing any traffic on the final (paved) summit trail. Due to commitments to hike on Balsam Mt, the road it was. The new construction looks good. The old restroom building is now a gift shop and information center. The restrooms have been moved to small buildings in the upper lot. I wish this area was not so commercial but it is what it is. The walk to the summit lookout was crowded and uneventful. It was a clear day, which is quite rare. Trip back down was fast due to the a fore mentioned commitment.
