Ascent Trip ReportEasy road/bushwack ....... .63 miles, 35 minutes RT
We approached from the east, we drove west on 83 from Cote Blanche Road after trying to visit Saint Mary Highpoint. At 7.2 miles we turned left and parked at a wide gated entrance with a number of signs "No Trespassing, get permission at guard house". 300 yards further on is the main entrance to the industrial oil plant "Alta Mesa Services Ltd".
I decided to ignore/chance/dash to the Highpoint. I walked west 200 yards where the paved road bends south and in another 200 yards on the right reaches a fenced-in pumping station. On the other side is a wide track that enters the woods, I started my bushwack here. I headed/climbed west 60-70 yards through fairly open woods towards the ridge. At a "Petrolium Pipeline" sign a good path leads left 100 yards (southerly) to the summit area ..... the top ridge is about 50 yards, I picked my Highpoint at its south end with a GPS reading of 29.81638, 91.80287. A very dense summit with no views, I orange flagged a tree. The bushwack distance is about 150 yards one way.
I returned to the TH as quickly as possible. What I did is definitely a no-no, I find it difficult not to try, especially when I'm so far away from home and won't be back. We drove north/overnighted at a Lafayette hotel.
