Ascent Trip Report

2 day backpack of the entire Carter Moriah Range. Started with ascent of Polecat at the Ski area - so many trails were bare due to warm temps and rain. The feet of snow that fell just one week ago are nearly gone! Made it across the wildcats and to the hut by 1pm. Luckily the descent of Wildcat through the steep section wasn't too bad, but there were some icy/postholed sections that made going a bit rough. After lunch at the hut, we ascended to Carter dome (on crampons - lots of ice) and the going was very slow. But made it out to Zeta Pass to set up camp by 4pm. Found a good tentsite and stayed toasty warm all night despite temps around 0 and some winds at night. All was calm by morning. Took longer than expected to break camp, but still were on trails by 9am. Climbed South and Middle Carter in good time. Clouds cleared and we had some nice views all morning. Had some icy/steep/tricky descending from North Carter and made our way over to Moriah. Climbed stronger than expected despite our tired legs and summited in light snow/clouds so had limited views. Made it out to our car before dark!
