Ascent Trip ReportThe day before we drove up the north side of Chelan Butte, ~3800. No Snow. That morning we drove nearly up Whitmore, ~3900, before hitting a bit of snow hanging on the road. Not much but enough to stop the car. No problem though. So we go to Whitestone. First of all, our road is bermed. The other road we try, has downed trees. We spend a fair amount of time sawing and chopping at a big tree. Finally another tree stops us. So we go to walk the road. Soon it turns to patchy snow. Then snow. Then before we know it we are postholing up to the waist on some pipsqueak little Okanogan peak. Well of course this takes forever and naturally we have no snowshoes or anything. Plus I have like a six hour drive back to Seattle. So we finally gave up on this because our progress was so slow through the snow. Who would have thought this one would turn out like this?
