Ascent Trip Report

Trailhead is on US 64 just past entrance to Taos Canyon (heading East). Trail ascends 1000 feet to nice overlook (about 1.9 mi.) and then another 1000 feet to intersection with Ojitos Trail (1.7 mi.).

When I started a low cloud cover made it look unlikely I would make it up very far, but the clouds cleared into a beautiful sunny day. Easy going for the first 1300 feet up with only a light dusting of snow, but I hit more snow around 8500 feet that rapidly got deeper (6 to 12 inches) slowing me down considerably as I had no poles or snow shoes.
