Ascent Trip Report

w Monica and the randomites (Jesse, Monica, Al, Jim, Bonnie, and Carmen. Changed plans - went up Sabaday instead of Pine Bend but still reached both summits. What an interesting way to start the 2010-11 Winter Hiking Season. This hike had a little of everything. There were some challenging river crossings. There was snow on the ground. There were some steeps coverd with ice. There were some mild temperatures. We had one person demonstrate why you carry extra clothes during winter hikes - gives you something dry to put on if you slip into the water. Great attitude and recovery considering this happened early on. We also had a medical demonstration on how to pop your own shoulder back into the socket after a slip on some ice. This group was totally prepared to handle anything that the mountain and mother nature could throw at us - and they did it with a smile and a chuckle. "That's all you got old man winter?" Not enough to prevent us from claiming our peaks.
