Ascent Trip ReportStarted off first day of winter with a double hike with Jeff - Hancocks and Osceolas. Just a light snow falling and not too cold - we had a great hike of Hancocks. Steep trail up was a bit of a challenging with loose snow and just microspikes but we made it okay - was different than last time when we hiked Arrow Slide. Lots of snow on the way down made butt sledding a breeze - pretty much slide all the way back to the trail junction. Trail/woods were just beautiful this morning - made the 10 mile trip in about 4.5 hours. No one else on the trails.
Then off to Osceolas - just a half mile up the road - but so much less snow, (plenty of ice though) which made the steep climb a challenge. Crampons were needed a few spots - including crossing the top of the slide. Windy and chilly along the top. The climbs were so hard - just not much gas in the tank after the morning hike - but still made it down past the tricky parts before dark and were at the trailhead by 6pm.
