Ascent Trip Report.21Schoharie County Highpoint 3423’ Huntersfield ‘s not an easy trailhead to find. On Friday the 17th failed to summit from the North; Sunday drove Greene Cty. Rte. 10 between Prattsville and West Settlement Rd. to find an immediate turn on curve, (N 42° 20.090 W 74° 22.142) off from Schrader Rd. northward into Huntersfield State Forest, no signs and seems like a driveway. Drove out road to a Y Jct. and turned back to State Forest Sign (N 42° 20.377 W 74° 21.935) to park, no driving car beyond for me. Summit is 1.5 miles distant. My jog begins here taking the right turn in road. After about a mile, begin upward climbing along tote roads of fresh snow (5”). I find hiking tracks heading uphill, a hunter maybe, but no a hiker leaving signs of ski poles. He’s following old near overgrown roads going up along to the line of ridge and an unmarked road (N 42° 21.045 W 74°21.230). It’s about one-half mile east to summit from here. Yellow blazing at three- way junction (N 42° 21.270 W 74° 20.860) is next trail signs met which goes north while path to Lean-to and Huntersfield continues east. Lean-to is reached in 68 minutes at 2.41 miles. Long Path Aqua near about summit and Yellow blazing below are about it. Start back from summit at 2.50 miles after 21 minutes of hanging out at Lean-to with a bite of cheese and pics. Follow summit ridge unmarked trail / tote road west right on down to clearing and main road downhill (N 42° 20.377 W 74° 21.923) still following Forest Ranger (at Lean-to signed 17th) Patrol tracks out. I reached trailhead, passing by left side of Y Junction in 45 minutes after 2.21 miles, running in Ice Bug Sneakers, gaiters, & ski poles for weight bearing balance. This way is the quickest and most straightforward path to summit yet. RT hiking jog totaled 4.71 miles in 2 ¼ hours with a 980’ elevation gain. jalz111er
