Ascent Trip Report

When I return from my summers in New Mexico to Pennsylvania, I miss the Rocky Mountains. But Pennsylvania does have an extensive trail system across its wooded hills, and that keeps me outside and fit.

I hiked a piece of the 70 mile long Laurel Highlands Trail on a pleasant fall afternoon. Parking and trail access is off Pa. route 31 (with clear signage) between Jones Mills and Hidden Valley. From the parking area it's about 500 feet to the trail. Heading north from the trail junction you reach mile marker 31 in 0.2 miles. I hiked from there to mileage marker 36 and back. The route includes several short ascents as it wanders up and down the hills. Not like real mountains but over 10 miles and almost 1700 feet of total elevation gain amidst woods and boulders left me content.
