Ascent Trip ReportFrom I-5 SE of Ashland, OR, take OR 66 (Green Springs Highway)14.7 miles up the winding, at times precipitous road to Soda Mountain Rd.
Head south on this road 5.7 miles to the Soda Mountain L.O.. The first 4 miles are over a good, mostly gravel road (some washboard). The final dirt spur (1.6 miles) to the L.O. is rutted and rough. The L.O. consists of a 10' tower built in 1962 to replace the 1933 structure. It is staffed every summer. Ken has been the lookout person for many years. The sweeping views are particularly good of Mt. Shasta, Mt. McLaughlin, Mt. Scott, Mt. Ashland,Pilot Rock, Cottonwood Peak, and the Shasta Valley.
