Ascent Trip ReportI approached Little Grayback Mtn from Upper Applegate Road. I turned and crossed the dam at Applegate Lake and then turned up the gravel road going up French Gulch. I follwed this to the French Gulch Divide where there is a sign for the Little Grayback Trailhead. There is parking here for a couple cars. This is a great well maintained trail and I followed it for about 2.5 miles to about 4,500 ft elevation and then left the trail and hiked up a steep slope towards the summit. This is an old burned area and the dead brush is still standing. When I got up close to the ridge line I was still about .5 mile from the high point, so I had to find my way along the ridge through the brush. Most of it was easy by staying on the south side of the ridge where the brush burned. I eventually got all the way over to the high point. Coming down I just came down the south east rib and avoided most of the brush. If I were to hike it again, I would only hike about 1.5 miles up the trail and then head directly up the south side to the summit. Views are great along the trail and from the summit
