Ascent Trip Report

Moderate woods track and bushwack from southeast TH at Golf Course Road, east of Richford (hwy #105A)VT ..... 2km, 40 minute RT.

I approached this Hike from the USA side. From Richford, Vermont, we drove north on HWY #139 (towards the Canadian Border at Abercom) a short distance to a right turn on Golf Course Road, on the left is the large plant, Blue Seal Feed Co. We drove east on Golf Course Road for 2.9km, just ahead on the right is a white house with a barn and on the left is a gated woods road entrance. Park in front of the gate, this is the TH.

I hiked northbound up the little used woods track for 200 yards where the track bends right and crosses a stream. Stay left and bushwack up the left side of the stream to the USA/Canada Boundary Line at about 300 yards. You'll note that the Boundary swath has a bed of recent cuttings and impossible to walk through, so I turned left (west), staying in the Vermont open woods I bushwacked up a steep slope to BOUNDARY MONUMENT 599 on a height-of-land.

The Boundary Line here is on the south slope of an unknowm mountain to the north (Quebec). My GPS at BOUNDARY MONUMENT 599 read 45.01471, 72.63464. The 3 foot high, cast iron monument has the inscription "Treaty of Washington, Boundary Aug 9th 1842". Great views of the Boundary swath in both directions, Ayers Hill to the west, and to the east is Boundary Monument 597B on the south slopes of the next small hill to the east.

From this TH we continued up the Golf Course Road .6 Miles to the TH for our next climb, Boundary Monument 597B.

"WINNERS TAKE TIME TO RELISH THEIR WORK ..... KNOWING THAT SCALING A MOUNTAIN IS WHAT MAKES THE VIEW FROM THE TOP SO EXHILARATING."

PB needs to show this Monument as being on the Vermont/Quebec boundary line and not just as Vermont (as entered).
