Ascent Trip ReportAn easy road/bushwack south bound from the TH on Chemin Richford east of Frelighsburg ....... 3.4km. 1 hour RT for both destinations, Monument 606 (which is on the North Slope of Ayers Hill) and Ayers Hill.
From Frelighsburg travel south on Hwy #237 for 1km to a left turn on Chemin Richford, then east on Richford for 8.9km to a gated driveway on the right side with a barn and a small house, across the road is mailbox #288 and to the north is the very "distinctive, peaky" Le Pinacle mountain I went to the house for permission to enter the property but there was no one home.
I hiked south bound on the excellent stone chip driveway, around the barn and past a house with a small lake, to the USA/Canada Boundary Line at 1km, a large expensive private home with landscaped grounds is to the right. At the Boundary Line I turned right on the 6M wide swath and climbed westbound 200M to Boundary Monument 606.
AYERS HILL - NORTH SLOPE is located right on the USA/CAN Boundary Monument 606 (the Ayers Hill summit is .5km south of the Boundary Line), my GPS at Monument 606 read 45.01601, 72.73391. The cast iron Monument is located right on the highpoint of the east-west Boundary Line of this area, the large private home is 50 feet to the north. I should note that the private home's rear log fence is right on the Boundary Line and therefore on Canada's half of the 6M swath, (see my TR for Boundary Monument 644 as to why this is allowed).
The views to the north are outstanding, Le Pinacle dominating. The Boundary swath has been recently cut however west of the Monument is not completed, the swath is therefore full of cuttings so its much easier to walk in the open USA woods.
From Monument 606 I bushwacked south up the north ridge to the summit of AYERS HILL at about .5km, a small cairn on an open rocky outcrop with outstanding views in all directions. My GPS reading was 45.01221, 72.73589.
The ridge is an open deciduous forest with an undergrowth of thorn bushes, the footing somewhat rocky. An easy bushwack except for the thorns, there is a good animal track as you near the summit. I returned the same way.
