Ascent Trip Report

From Pittsburgh take US 22 east beyond Blairsville. Three miles past the exit to 119 North take Penn View Rd. right and then left on Chestnut Ridge Road in a couple of hundred yards. The high point is on state game lands but access is a problem because much of it is surrounded by private property. I wandered up and down Chestnut Ridge Road with my GPS running to find the closest spot to the high point. A spot about two miles from the beginning of Chestnut Ridge Rd. was closest (about 0.6 miles from the high point). There's a large new house on a rise with a gravel road or driveway just south of it. It was not posted. The road runs back to an older white house. Just before it curves around to that house, a faded track runs east along the edge of a field behind a garage or storage shed. The track runs into further dirt tracks, apparently old forest roads or tracks left by pipeline crews. No one has been down these for a while, but they are passable with a high clearance 4wd vehicle. I parked on one of these tracks 0.53 miles from the high point and followed my GPS to the high point, first down the forest tracks and then bushwhacking the last few hundred feet.
