Ascent Trip ReportAnother of the drive up trips so I consider this a "High Pointing" outing; not "Peakbagging" as you can not get any excercise bagging this one. Still, it was well marked, clean, and nicely done. Compare to Indiana which was in poor shape (which I did later that day).
To make this trip more interesting, I left Columbus airport (on business) and drove to Highpoint two other Ohio county HP sites. The drives to those two sites were spectacular at this time of year and I was pleasantly surprised. I caught near peak fall color and the yellows, orange and red leaves were beautiful. Coming from FL we never see that much color ever. There are lots of rolling hills in the areas south of the State HP and the corn fields had all been harvested to the ground so you could see for miles. The bare rolling fields and color was the highlight of the drive. My travel path took me through many beautiful homes, historic towns, and other interesting features in the coutryside. The rolling terrain had a lot of karst features and i saw signs to many caving tours (Ohio Caverns was the biggest i passed several times).
This was the time of year to do a non technical peakbagging for sure.Interestingly, the subsequent county highpoints in Indiana and in Ohio were far less interesting as the terrain became more bland and the colors faded as i went further north towards Michigan.
