Ascent Trip Reportget up early at the Don Fernando Resort in Taos, drive 45 minute to trail head at Taos Ski Resort. start hiking at 7 am, first light, in overcast conditions. arrive at Williams Lake after a quick one hour, then up the steep scree field on the west face of Wheeler Peak in the snow, fog & southwest wind. i arrive at the summit in 2:05, quite quick i'd say. a group of 5 from Philmont Scout Ranch arrive from the east side, nice group. after 30 minute, some clearing skies, photos, i head down slowly to save the knees. i spy a small group of female & young mountain goats halfway down the west face. nice new switchbacks near tree line help save my knees! i tour around the rather empty Taos Valley Ski resort for abit. nice climb!
