Ascent Trip ReportToday (Friday the 25th) was the craziest day of teh trip so far. Three of us (Noodlehat, Soren and I) had planned on going 21 miles, which in itself is a tough day, but this girl that I had also been hiking with for a few days, One Third, decided that it would be a good idea to hike the extra seven miles to the town of Erwin, Tenn. tonight. So after great views from the 5500' Big Bald at about noontime, we ended up eating lunch at a shelter a mile down the mountain (joining Soren and a German friend from Bamburg, Bavaria, called Viking) and heading to eat dinner at the No Business Knob Shelter at about 6pm. As one third was a little behind me, I had already cooked my dinner using some gasoline that someone had left at the shelter in a Coke bottle mixed with mostly water (gas flavored Ramen's taste awful). She showed up about 6:45 and still felt good enough to hike out the extra 7 miles to road. So we did and got to Erwin at 9:30pm and had to hitch into town to get to this place, called Miss Janet's. We ended up getting a ride from one of Miss Janet's high school friends who ended up giving us Mountain Dew and some Chips. Luckily, the two of us made it before the Sonic (America's Drive Thru) closed, and we had the enjoyment of being greeted by at least 20 of our fellow thru hikers.
