Ascent Trip Report

As we climbed up Clingman's Dome, I was surprised to see Spruce trees like we have back in New England. Got to the dome at 10am, and had clouds clear for us briefly enough to see full 360 degree view from tower atop peak. Saw some tourists, but not that many. It started to lightly rain when we were at the top. Walked thru rain all day but got to drop by a nice dry shelter for lunch. Passing 5 forest rangers with a chainsaw and a airplane's tail was interesting. Apparently, there had been a small plane crash right off the AT in the last couple weeks. Funny to have a couple of tourists see us at a stop on Clingman's Dome Road and take a picture of us. It was the first time, I have actually been considered a tourist attraction!!
